Am I a candidate?

Breast Reduction candidates should be in relatively good health and have no unmanaged medical your consultation, your surgeon will discuss all of these factors in great detail to determine proper candidacy.
Preparation
The initial consultation is roughly 45 minutes to an hour in length. Our surgeon’s goal during this time is to listen attentively to your concerns so they can fully understand your motivation and goals for treatment. If having someone else present will help you better retain the information, ask the pertinent questions, and provide overall moral support, we encourage inviting a close friend or family member to attend the consultation with you.
During this in-depth appointment, Dr. Broumand will conduct a physical exam and discuss medical history to better determine if Breast Reduction is the right procedure for you. Following the examination, we will discuss the expected surgical outcome with the help of VECTRA® XT technology — an advanced imaging system that allows a 3D image of your body to be taken and modified based on the proposed procedural strategy. This innovative tool can help you establish realistic expectations for surgery, potentially leading to higher postoperative satisfaction.
Once a treatment plan has been decided and agreed upon by both you and your surgeon, our friendly staff will assist you schedule your procedure at your convenience.
Prior to your Breast Reduction procedure, our team will provide a comprehensive pre-operative list to ensure you have the best experience possible. Some of the things you can do leading up to treatment procedure is refrain from aspirin products, stop certain medications, avoid particular vitamins, and add Arnica herbal supplements to your regimen.
Procedure
When the day of the procedure arrives, you will be greeted by our surgical team, who will help you prepare for the operation. You will individually discuss the Breast Reduction procedure with the nurse, physician and the anesthesiologist to review the surgical plan and address any final questions or concerns.
Dr. Broumand typically uses a “lollipop” incision pattern that extends around the perimeter of the areola and down the underside of the breasts to the inframammary fold. During the procedure, excess breast tissue and fat is removed, and any redundant skin is excised. Remaining skin and breast tissue is then lifted and shaped until an ideal aesthetic is achieved, and incisions are closed with the utmost care and precision to promote optimal healing. The entire Breast Reduction procedure can generally be performed in about three hours, though this time may vary depending on the individual needs and goals of the patient.
Following treatment, you will awake feeling as if you have just taken a restful nap. Our operating room team (along with our board-certified anesthesiologist) will be present to greet you, and they will help you walk with assistance to the recovery room, ensuring that you are in no pain. After about an hour in this recovery room, a staff member will evaluate your condition to make sure you feel well enough to return home. If so, they will coordinate a close friend or relative to pick you up and return home that day.
Recovery
After Breast Reduction, some degree of swelling and/or bruising is expected. These symptoms are temporary and should subside with time. Any potential discomfort that occurs can typically be managed effectively with medication. The majority of individuals are able to return to non-strenuous jobs and resume normal daily routines after a few days, though vigorous exercise and strenuous activities should be avoided for at least 4 weeks. Ultimately, the exact length of recovery will depend on the technique and each individual’s unique healing process. Due to the location of the incisions, any signs of scarring can generally be hidden underneath most articles of clothing, including various bra and swimsuit varieties.
